Where it goes
Cleanse → (toner) → cactus gel → serum if water-based (or before the gel) → moisturiser → sunscreen (morning). Thin to thick is the rule.
Morning routine
- Cleanse gently or just rinse with water.
- Apply cactus gel: a pea-to-almond-sized amount, pressed into slightly damp skin.
- Moisturiser: a lightweight lotion for oily skin, a cream for dry skin.
- Sunscreen: broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher. Cactus gel does not protect from UV.
Let the gel absorb for 30–60 seconds before the next step to reduce pilling under sunscreen.
Night routine
- Cleanse (double cleanse if you wear sunscreen or makeup).
- Treatment: if you use a prescription or a retinoid, follow your prescriber's instructions on order and timing.
- Cactus gel to add a light layer of hydration.
- Moisturiser to seal it in.

How much to use
Less than you think. A thick layer does not hydrate more; it just sits on the surface and can pill. If skin feels tacky after a minute, use less next time.
Ways to use it beyond a daily layer
- Chilled mask: keep the tub in the fridge, apply a thicker layer for 10 minutes, then pat in the excess. See DIY cactus gel mask ideas.
- Under makeup: a very thin layer as a hydrating base. See cactus gel as a primer.
- Mixed with moisturiser: blend a little into your cream for a lighter feel in summer.
Common mistakes
- Skipping sunscreen because the gel "feels protective".
- Using it on open spots or wounds: it is a cosmetic, not a wound product.
- Picking a fragranced gel for sensitive skin.
- Expecting it to fix acne or pigmentation. It hydrates and soothes; it does not treat conditions.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use cactus gel on my face every day?
Yes, most people can use it once or twice a day after a successful patch test.
Do I need moisturiser after cactus gel?
Usually yes, unless your skin is very oily. The gel adds water; a moisturiser helps keep it in.
Can I use cactus gel as a moisturiser?
For oily skin in hot weather, a gel alone may be enough. Normal and dry skin generally need a cream on top.
Should I wash off cactus gel?
No, soothing gels are leave-on products, unless you are using a thick layer as a short mask.
