Why use a gel under makeup?

Step by step

  1. Moisturise if your skin needs it and let it absorb.
  2. Press in a very thin layer of cactus gel (half a pea is often enough for the whole face).
  3. Wait 1–2 minutes. Skin should feel smooth, not tacky.
  4. Apply sunscreen in the morning, and let that set.
  5. Apply foundation by pressing or stippling rather than rubbing.

How to prevent pilling

Best makeup pairings

Water-based or lightweight foundations, skin tints and cream blushes tend to sit nicely on a gel base. Long-wear matte formulas may grip better on a dedicated primer.

Frequently asked questions

Why does cactus gel pill under makeup?

Pilling happens when layers have not absorbed, when too much product is used, or when water-based and silicone-based products clash. Use less and wait between layers.

Can cactus gel replace primer?

For a natural, dewy look it can act as a light hydrating base. It will not blur pores or extend wear like a dedicated primer.
